WHO IS MILLI (abbreviated "m")?

1 mrad = 1/1000 rad      or       1 rad = 1000 mrad

1 mrem = 1/1000 rem      or       1 rem = 1000 mrem

1 mGy = 1/1000 Gy      or       1 Gy = 1000 mGy

1 mSv = 1/1000 Sv      or       1 Sv = 1000 mSv

So:    1 rem  =  10 mSv

In SI units we use the following prefixes:

Pico        p        10-12

Nano       n        10-9

Micro      μ        10-6

Milli        m       10-3

Kilo        k        103

Mega       M       106

Notice that all of the prefixes increment by factors of 1000 or 103

The use of other prefixes for SI units, such as centi (c) for 10-2 is generally not allowed though there are a few exceptions because of common use – such as centimeter.

This means that you should not use cGy or cSv as units, though you may come across these units as simple substitutions for rad or rem.  The units cGy and cSv are not accepted in refereed publications.
