DETERMINISTIC EFFECTS

Cataracts:

· Only occur with x-ray doses greater than 2 Sv (200 rem) for a single exposure.

· The threshold dose for inducing cataracts with multiple x-ray exposures over a period of weeks is more than 5 Sv (500 rem)

Skin Erythema & Burns:

· The threshold dose for x-ray exposure from a single examination is about 2 Sv (200 rem). Again, if the exposure is protracted over a period of time – days or weeks – the threshold dose is much higher.
