Madison Explorers Summer Camp (1/3)

UW Medical Physics Outreach has partnered with the Madison Explorers Summer Camp to bring a series of three demonstrations and activities to the young campers. For the first visit, we focused on medical imaging and how doctors can see inside the body. After an introduction and discussion about medical imaging, the young learners worked with x-ray print-outs to identify anatomy and recreate a full skeleton! They also took turns using the portable ultrasound system to find hidden grapes in our gelatin brain phantom! After the activity, they were encouraged to record what they learned in their science notebooks with words and/or drawings. Next week we look forward to sharing an activity and demonstration about radiation! Thanks to Jayse Weaver for helping develop and lead this event and to our partner Rebecca Katzenmeyer for inviting us to participate!
