Implantable medical devices – such as pacemakers, defibrillators and neurostimulators – have become much more common and patients are living longer and healthier lives as a result. Given these demographic changes it is increasingly common for a busy radiotherapy department to have these patients referred for treatment and be required to safely and efficiently manage their care. This talk provides insight into the operation of these devices and their many potential interactions with clinical radiation sources.
