Medical Ultrasound Laboratory at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM): Ongoing Projects and Initial Results

Ivan M. Rosado-Mendez, PhD
Assistant Professor, Instituto de Física, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México

This talk will present some of the initial results from the new Medical Ultrasound Laboratory at UNAM. Since its creation in mid 2017, research efforts have been centered on developing and implementing Quantitative Ultrasound (QUS) techniques aiming at providing an objective assessment of healthy and diseased tissue. Ongoing projects include (1) the initiation of a Radiomics-framed clinical protocol at the National Institute of Cancerology in Mexico City to improve the diagnosis accuracy of ultrasound imaging for breast cancer; (2) the detection of neurotoxic effects of anesthesia in the newborn brain with QUS; and (3) the development of QUS parameters to analyze changes in the viscoelastic properties of the uterine cervix during pregnancy (the latter two in collaboration with UW-Madison).
