A Study of Cerebral Perfusion in Adult Offspring of Patient s with Alzheimer s Dementia using Dynamic Susceptibility Contrast MRI

Rachel DiAnne McKinsey (student of Dr. M. Elizabeth Meyerand)
Research Assistant, Department of Medical Physics, UW-School of Medicine & Public Health, Madison, WI USA

The application of Dynamic Susceptibility Contrast (DSC) perfusion with intravenous gadolinium contrast injection to investigate cerebral perfusion changes in Alzheimer’s Dementia is increasingly used in clinical practice. Blood flow is a candidate marker for detecting early stages of AD because a decrease in cerebral perfusion has already been observed with perfusion MRI using Arterial Spin Labeling techniques. The purpose of this study is to investigate the ability of DSC MRI combining bolus and infusion techniques to measure CBF, CBV, and MTT changes in subjects at an increased risk of developing AD.
