Radiological Physics Center Quality Assurance in Clinical Trails

David S. Followill, Ph.D. (guest of Dr. Larry DeWerd)
Director, Radiological Physics Center, Associate Professor, Department of Radiation Physics, University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX USA

The Radiological Physics Center has been providing QA services to the NCI supported clinical trials for the past 43 years. The RPCs QA program includes credentialing institutions (anthropomorphic phantoms), remote monitoring of beam output, review of patient records and performing onsite dosimetry review visits. These QA mechanisms have identified numerous errors in dose delivery that have been corrected and ultimately have reduced the dose delivery uncertainty for clinical trial patients and the studies they have been entered onto. As new radiation delivery mechanisms are implemented clinically, the RPC adapts to include them within its QA monitoring program.
