Family?

I am the oldest of four children! My brother, Dawson, just earned his commercial pilot’s license and flies charter for a company out of Rochester, MN. My sister, Lexis, is a senior in high school and plans to pursue a career in nursing. The youngest of the four, Kylie, just started 4th grade and love spending time at gymnastics practice. Things are never boring at the Prielipp household and I love taking trips back home to visit!

Surprising fact about you?

In August of 2015, I donated a kidney to a stranger! To this day, I do not know my recipient’s name, nor have I met her. I do know that my kidney went to a 14 year old girl and that she is doing extremely well, so that is all that matters!

What is the best book you have ever read?

I have never been into reading for fun. However now that I have graduated college and I have established a more consistent daily routine, I would love to give reading for pleasure another try. I welcome any suggestions for books!

Best advice you ever received and how it carries through your life?

It costs zero dollars to be a decent human being. People will always remember how you made them feel, so I strive to develop and maintain healthy relationships both personally and professionally.

What three traits define you?

  • Compassionate- I try to keep in mind that everyone is fighting a battle that I know nothing about. I love random acts of kindness and how much of a difference it can make in someone else’s life. The small things matter!
  • Dedicated- I believe in giving 100% effort no matter what I am doing. I was raised to do things the right way or don’t do them at all!
  • Perseverant- In the face of adversity, I look to find the positives of the situation. Sometimes I learn the most from failing! It’s important to get back up and keep trying!

What do you think is the most important quality you need to have for success?

Communication is key! This especially applies to me as an HR Business Partner. I am responsible for three different departments across SMPH (Medical Physics, Genetics, and the Institute on Aging). In order to provide the best customer and HR service, it is critical to keep open lines of communication.

What does true leadership mean to you?

True leadership is when you establish trust, mutual respect, and productive relationships with those you serve. In order to be successful at this, you must:

  1. Listen.
  2. Take initiative.
  3. Understand.

What do you value most in a job?

It is essential to love what you do! What I love about HR is the opportunity to build relationships with people. I also have the privilege of learning something new every day, which keeps me on my toes!

What personality trait are you always trying to improve?

I am not a patient person. Often times, I catch myself trying to do too much at once which leads to frustration and exhaustion. I am always looking for ways to improve my patience and allowing myself (and others) time.

What would you do for a career if you weren’t doing this?

I would LOVE to be a motivational speaker and travel the country. I am fortunate enough to exercise my passion for public speaking through the Wisconsin Department of Justice and the Wisconsin Department of Corrections as a guest speaker.

What is your best advice for encountering a new situation?

Listen and ask questions. I am someone who learns best when asking lots of questions! However, I understand that in order to ask good questions, you have to listen and absorb first.

Which day of the week are you the most productive?

I am most productive on days when I get the proper amount of sleep and coffee!
