Medphysics Board of Visitors conducts Annual Meeting

Medical Physics Board of Visitors

The Department of Medical Physics Board of Visitors convened on November 4, 2019, for its third all-day meeting.

In efforts to leverage collective wisdom and experience of alumni, industry and others closely affiliated, the department established a Board of Visitors in 2018. This department advisory board gathers to help the department identify needs, address challenges, and plan for the future. The board also forms a vital bridge between students, faculty, alumni, and friends of the department.

Each meeting, the board receives updates from the Department Chair, and/or his delegates, on a range of topics including department updates as well as research and educational initiatives. The most recent meeting focused on increasing philanthropy and strategies surrounding engaging alumni.

The Board of Visitors' priorities include the following:

  • Serve as ambassadors and advocates for the department. Advise and assist the department in increasing awareness of the department’s achievements in its mission areas among students, alumni, peers, and the general public.
  • Assist the department and the UW Foundation in identifying philanthropic donors to support key priorities of the department.
  • Advise on mechanisms for optimizing the impact of the department’s research and instructional activities.
  • As appropriate, assist in the recruitment of highest quality graduate students and post-doctoral fellows.
  • As appropriate, provide mentoring, networking, and career assistance to medical physics graduate students, residents, and postdoctoral fellows.
  • Advise the department on the impact of new research directions on society
