UWMRRC Announces Grand Opening of New Linac Laboratory + Open House

The UW Medical Radiation Research Center (UWMRRC) would like to announce the grand opening of their new research and education linac laboratory. This facility is the first of its kind, and is uniquely positioned to provide comprehensive resources for graduate education, external beam radiotherapy research, and outreach training. In conjunction with the UWMRRC sponsored Treatment Planning Laboratory, investigation of radiotherapy treatment paradigms can now be carried out from the planning stages through beam delivery to optimize clinical outcome for new and emerging treatment techniques including IGRT, IMRT, VMAT, SRS, SBRT, and many more. The UWMRRC is collaborating with Varian and other industry leaders to develop advanced instrumentation and QA tools, and to expand translational research efforts. In addition, the facility will support cross-collaboration and research in the field of radiobiology in conjunction with the UW Biotechnology Center, the UW School of Medicine and Public Health, and the UW Carbone Cancer Center. An open house is scheduled for Wednesday, December 4 from 9-11 am in B1002 WIMR, with refreshments in 5001A WIMR.
