Signal Processing

We employ specialized signal processing techniques in many of our studies. Biomagnetic signals are generally very weak and fetal biomagnetic signals are even weaker than those of adults. Most recordings contain environmental and biological interferences which are much larger than the signals of interest. Spatial filtering is an especially effective method of separating signal and interference in our recordings because the spatial characteristics of the signal and interference are often distinct. These studies are performed in collaboration with Barry Van Veen of the Electrical and Computer Engineering.
