Functional MRI in pediatric Lung Disease

Giles Santyr (Hosted by Sean Fain)

Pediatric respiratory diseases such as cystic fibrosis, asthma, lung injury and bronchopulmonary dysplasia are significant contributors to childhood morbidity and can lead to chronic healthcare issues throughout life. There is a compelling clinical need for new functional lung imaging tools in order to develop improved treatments. MRI can measure regional lung function and may be well suited for children as it is non-invasive and non-ionizing, allowing monitoring of treatment response. This presentation will focus on the development of functional lung MRI approaches in children at the Hospital for Sick Children, with a particular emphasis on monitoring treatment of cystic fibrosis lung disease.
